I realized while making Christmas ornaments, that for me, its much more than the items themselves, but the process of creating them that brings me the most joy. Who doesn't love a finished product, or the supplies or lets face it the smell of the glue? But I, I revel in the little minutia of the cutting, the sorting through papers, the inking many many edges. Why not? How many opportunities in life do we get to relive Kindergarten again, not many, so I am going to live my passion, cutting, inking, and gluing till my little fingers fall off!

My friends know me by my passion for crafting but also crafting with recycled materials. I love knowing that I kept something out of the landfill, and was able to use it in an artistic way.

This ribbon garland came out of a "necessity is the mother of all inventions" type of moment. Limited funds is a commonality right now, but it doesn't need to spur limited creativity! I went into the local house stores only to find that their garlands were unnecessarily expensive and far from my simple tastes. Having left frustrated I happened upon some strips of fabric in my scrapbook area that I was saving for ribbon flowers. I started tearing and stripping and pulled out the jewelery wire, in no time and 11' later, I had a beautiful, unique garland that is truly Salima-like in every way: colorful, cheerful and simple.

I haven't written for awhile and thought I would post some new pics. I've been rather inspired by the Shabby Chic artsy look of Marion Smith as of late and a artsy celebrity scrapper/friend Julie Fei Fan Belzer whose work I would love to just print and paper my walls with!

I was thinking about my love for scrap and although I always want to cut down my stash, I can't help falling in love with the new items that came out at CHA! Namely a lot of Tim Holtz's new stuff and lots of Prima items. I've also been venturing onto manufacturing sites like Basic Grey, Prima Marketing, and Jenni Bowlin to keep my mind and spirit artfully engaged.

These two items I've made recently, but I truly love this card. I made it for my hubby and while, it is not the nicest card, I really took the time to make things for it. The center of the flower is made of glass beads from Michaels. and the background was made by the Prima frame stamps. The vintage transparency is so old I don't even know who made it.

Anyhow, here's my projects and I hope that you keep yourself artfully inspired and challenged!

Scrap Challenge

I was thinking its been awhile since I've posted anything, so it would be fun to post a challenge.
I sat at my scrap table and it was all tooo overwhelming for me, so i picked up the 2 closest pieces of paper,
and I'm creating this challenge:

1. Take the first 2 pieces of paper you find at your desk to create a card, page or atc.
2. Use an embellishment you've pushed off for over a year for just the right time.
3. Use a technique you haven't used in over a year. If you can't think of one, how about one you haven't used in over 3 months.
4. Use an ink color you haven't opened or used yet.

Upload what you have created and I'll do the same. Maybe we can have a vote with a prize.

Its been a long time since this has happened. I had to do a card for something, not realizing that those pieces of paper brought me a lot of peace in the process.

life's little challenges....

Sometimes..... you don't know how but you lose time.

You don't call your friend on their birthday,
You wake up at 6:50 instead of 6 am.
You forget how you and your best friend lost contact,
You can't remember a loved one's face.

Today I received my wake up call.
I had time smack me in the face today.
My cousin, who was the only one in my family
who used to write me in California over 5 and a half years
was diagnosed with Stage IV Cancer.

She's funny, she's upbeat, she's a good mom.
I didn't have the pleasure of seeing her for several months
and now she is going away from me, just like time.

Its really hard on me to accept that, but I can't imagine
how hard it must be on her.
And my other cousin, the one that I'm closest to is nursing her,
I haven't seen her in a while either.

This is the card I made for my cousin Mickey.
We call her that instead of Migdalia.
It fits her personality.

I pray that Allah keeps her in his care and that his will be done.

I will be more mindful not to lose so much time away from family.

Love to all my sissies, you know who u are. May I hear from you and see you more.

the quiet after the Christmas storm....

so after finishing my Christmas Card swap, I decided, I'm Christmased out and am thinking of converting to judaism, Just Kidding! At least they don't have trees, hee hee.

I made this card, during my observing the voting............... I was thinking of a Holiday card, and this came out and it reminds me of a hopeful woman, compassionate, a look of solace, and peace.

I guess kind of what we all need rightnow,

Winter Blues mean Snowmen Cards

Had the chance to relax finally, and whipped up this card. I was just recruited to replace someone in a card swap. I like the card because of the fun flock but it took a while.... actually an hour and a half, and I'm not totally wowed though. The fun flock is just fun in a bottle, really. It looks like snow when it falls onto the card before you press it down, and the glitter on top gives it the little pop it needs.

I embossed the scarf and ear muffs (they're my favorite!!) and filled them in with those Tsukienko Fantastix, they let you color in with a stamp pad, they are pretty much a dauber iin stick form! I love 'em.

So for such a cold and harsh day, I got the magic of snow to brighten up my night!!!

First blog: In honor of 6 cards.....

So I started this blog to share my cards and love of anything paper, stationary, inky, and glittery to name a few. Ever since I was a child I would feel the paper, touch it, see the thickness, and wish I could buy it. As an adult, I can! I get so fascinated by any type of embellishment or
sentiment that reminds me of a good memory, savoring the moment that I could put that memory to paper.

I am not the best card maker, nor am I the best at scrapbooking, but I thought that the same joy that I have should be shared with others. This blog is in part due to my sister in law, who shared her love of card making with me and the beautiful secret of the scrapbooking sisterhood.
